Local leadership talent in spotlight

WITH only six weeks before the popular One Day Leader show on national television ends, King William’s Town-born youth, Sanda Ncama, has had his fair share of influencing the nation and learning new leadership skills.

The show on SABC features six young people showcasing their leadership skills by tackling South African social, economic and political issues.

The show aims to educate young South Africans aged between 18 and 25 on leadership skills.

Ncama, 23, said he was inspired to enter the competition after seeing a promo about the show.

“What got me was the question: ‘Do you have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of leaders like Steve Biko?’

“I knew I had to enter because of my passion to serve,” he said.

Ncama said he was shocked and surprised when he made it into the top six.

“As someone who loves God and serving people, I took it as a God-given opportunity.

“I’ve been using this platform to let people know more about God and what He has done,” he said.

The six leaders are also given a chance to engage in political issues.

Ncama described himself as a servant leader who was able to put other people before himself.

From six leaders, the show now has five and on Sunday this week another candidate will be eliminated.

Ncama said he was not intimidated by the other candidates on the show.

The six will be judged on six pillars of leadership – willingness, vision, attitude, influence, action and accountability.

Ncama said he would be going back to Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NNMU) to finish his degree in music.

He said whether he won the competition or not, he would not stop serving people. The last show will be aired in early May. —
