Former president Thabo Mbeki visited Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu at a Cape Town hospital on Thursday.

“The archbishop and his family were very moved by the support he has received over the past few weeks from people across the world‚” his daughter‚ Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said.

Tutu was discharged from hospital last Tuesday‚ and re-admitted on Tuesday afternoon after expressing renewed discomfort.

Rev Tutu said on Tuesday that the hospitalisation was unrelated to his cancer treatment.

“His doctors considered it prudent for him to return to hospital for observation.

“He’ll have a few days of bed-rest while his medical dream team brings the situation under control and determines the next course of action‚ if any.

“He will stay in hospital until the weekend‚ at least‚” she said.
