Political parties picket outside East London City Hall

Members of both the ANC and the EFF held a picket at the  entrance to  the Buffalo City Metro (BCM) hall  this morning where the inauguration of the new BCM council is taking place.

The ANC protesters who had occupied the front of City Hall on Oxford Street said they were there to support their councillors as they do not want a councillor who has been imposed on them.
Meanwhile, the EFF supporters blocked IEC officials from entering as they accused the ANC of being corrupt.
Dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony included all possible executive council members mayoral nominee, Xola Pakati,  BCM's first female deputy mayor in Zoliswa Matana, Mzwandile Vaaibom to serve a second term as BCM chief whip and outgoing mayor Alfred Mtsi will also be sworn in today as the new BCM council speaker.
Police and law-enforcement police are monitoring the situation.
