Mthatha High Court judge Zamani Nhlangulele today found the three men accused of murdering a Mthatha couple guilty on all five counts of murder, kidnapping and robbery with grievous intent.

Mkhululi Luwaca, 22, Bongani Dephana, 22, and Andiphile Mhlophe, 21, were found guilty of murdering, kidnapping and robbing lovers Carl George, 20, and Jacqueline Miller, 20, in May last year.

The three had pleaded not guilty on all counts. But Nhlangulele said the state had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the three KwaLink village residents were guilty of the crimes.

George and Miller were bludgeoned to death and dumped at the Mthatha Dam.

Their belongings which included an Ipad, track bottom and car radio and speakers were found in the three men's position.

During the trial, they claimed they were not responsible for their murder but admitted to taking their belongings from the couple's Toyota Tazz, which they claimed they found abandoned.

The families told the Daily Dispatch after the judgment that they were happy that the case was almost over.

Parents Charles George and Rhona Miller said they had confidence in senior state advocate Mbulelo Nyendwana that he would convince Nhlangulele to deliver a sentence fitting of the crime.

The matter was postponed to September 1 for pre-sentencing reports.
