Eccentric writer Hlumela Nyaluza’s new self-help book is called Human Navigation – and one twist is that the first chapter is at the back and the last in front.

Ex-Dalian Nyaluza, 23, says the book aims to be thought-provoking as well as to “develop strategies” and human potential.

His desire to write it grew the more he met fellow pupils from diverse backgrounds with different experiences.

He said he used to gather his peers and motivate them to dream and to push their boundaries.

“At 17, I officially started the Human Navigation philosophy, which focuses on empowering those who lack ambition and makes dreamers dream even further.

“I push the concept of being against the norm in a way that suits each individual in each and every field.

“I’m an entrepreneur, a philosopher and an author.

“I have been experimenting on business ventures my entire life.

“When I was in my early teens, I started formulating a business life philosophy on how to be an industry leader generally.

“I formulated it from my own experiences and I called the philosophy Human Navigation – which is what the 202-page book is all about.”

The Phakamisa-born young man said his book, which was written back to front, is a simple example of doing things against the norm.

The first chapter is called Nothing and the last Everything.

“In between I share my formula on how to navigate from nothing to everything in the modern world,” he said.

The book is not the only mission the busy young man has embarked on.

In 2013, he started an initiative called The Long Tie to Success in aid of charity.

For this project Nyaluza made a 3m-long tie which he asked celebrities to sign as a pledge to support a charity.

“The tie was inspired by Mr Mandela’s Long Walk To Freedom. More than 20 national celebrities supported it,” he said.

Nyaluza has spoken on the radio for 27 hours and done other avant garde projects to push the Human Navigation movement.

Melanie Pretorius, head of media at Junto Publishing, the company responsible for publishing the book, said it was an “incredible, inspiring read” which depicted the true character of the author.

“Going through the book gave me a real reflection of Hlumelo. It’s captivating and very inspiring – surprising from someone so young who has experienced so much.

“Another interesting factor is how he decided to write the book from the back to the front, which is also how I edited it. He also scrambled a few words on one page, to tease the readers a little.”

The book includes a summary written by Sipho Tshapu, the scriptwriter of popular SABC drama series Skeem Saam.

On Saturday, Nyaluza will host a public viewing session at Mugg & Bean in Vincent Park mall from noon to 2pm, where he will be selling pre-copies at R500 each to the first 10 people who want to buy one.

“Investors are also invited to attend because there is an investment opportunity available here.

“Then in August the book will be launched globally.” — mbalit@dispatch.co.za
