129 Harleys revving it up at 10th rally

The unmistakable rumble of a Harley Davidson motorbike will be multiplied 130 times, when the mass ride of the 10th annual Black Rock Rally roars through East London this weekend.

Members of the public will also be able to scrutinise the iconic motorbikes and vote for the one that impresses them most.

The rally, founded by graphic designer and Harley Davidson rider Pierre Gonneau, and initially held in Gonubie, will now converge at the Hemingways Casino parking area from tomorrow until Sunday.

This year, it has attracted 129 bikes from all over the country, which will roll into the city to celebrate their rides, bond with other Harley enthusiasts and take in some of the city’s scenic sights.

Gonneau said he was expecting Harley bikers, including 58 pillions, from clubs in Cape Town, the Garden Route, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Bloemfontein, Pretoria and Johannesburg, as well as two local Harley clubs, to begin arriving this afternoon in time for a barge cruise down the Nahoon River tonight.

Riders will spend tomorrow morning at the Python Park’s mashie golf course and enjoy dinner at Hemingways before getting revved up for their sensational mass ride through the city on Saturday morning.
