Faku resigns, misses ANC meeting

NELSON Mandela Bay ANC regional chairman Nceba Faku resigned at the weekend amid months of tension in the executive.

The news comes as Bay mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and his deputy Nancy Sihlwayi were summoned to the ANC’s provincial headquarters in King William’s Town – Calata House – yesterday to finally hear their fate about whether or not they would be redeployed.

President Jacob Zuma and the rest of the top six ANC were in the province to relay the decision.

Faku, who was one of the main drivers of the campaign to see Wayile and the rest of the troika removed, did not attend the meeting in King William’s Town yesterday.

Some believe the timing of his resignation was due to his recently mended relationship with Wayile.

They say he no longer shared the views of the rest of the regional executive committee (REC) that Wayile and the troika should be redeployed.

Faku did not respond to questions about the reasons for his resignation.

However, the text message he sent to his executive announcing his resignation suggested that he wanted to pursue business interests.

Provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said they had expected Faku to attend the meeting yesterday and were shocked when they received his resignation letter.

“When I spoke to him he said he didn’t know about the meeting . But anyway, the deputy will step in to assume the chairman duties until a new chairperson is elected.”
