Two caught with 300kg of dagga

KING William’s Town police seized over 300kg of dagga with an estimated value of R3.7-million on Thursday morning in a bust labelled one of the biggest in the area.

Two male suspects aged 26 and 56 were arrested and charged with possession of dagga and bribery after allegedly attempting to evade arrest and offering a bribe to one of the police officials.

The arrest was made by police members attached to the Bhisho police services who were patrolling the R63 at 2am when they spotted a white vehicle with tinted windows .

According to a police report the vehicle sped off when police tried to stop it. “Our members tried to stop the vehicle but the driver started to drive fast and they gave chase with blue lamps and sirens on,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa.

The suspect who was driving the vehicle eventually stopped and the police approached him and asked for his driver’s licence and searched the vehicle.

“T he police found 27 bags of dagga weighing 307kg.

“The driver wanted to speak to one of the police aside and wanted to bribe the official by showing him money. Police immediately arrested him for bribery and possession of dagga,” said Mawisa.

Police also confiscated an undisclosed amount of money. —
