Pastor supports police with hamper campaign

AN EAST London pastor is encouraging others to emulate her Adopt-a-Police Station campaign.

She wants community stakeholders to support police officers in the form of food parcels and gifts to recognise the efforts made by the men and women in blue.

Adopt-a-Police Station coordinator Pastor Marcel Mbambe was in the Duncan Village Police Station yesterday handing over food parcels and gifts donated by members of the Shoprite Oxford Street and River Ministry Church.

She said the campaign was in the spirit of the Mother’s Day weekend.

“Today we brought food, drink and photo frame gifts with messages for Mother’s Day for police officers in this station,” she said.

Mbambe said she had decided to host the campaign at the DV police station because she was a resident of Duncan Village.

The relationship between police and the public needed to be improved, she added.

“We want to mobilise the whole community to uplift and encourage our police officers on the good job that they are doing,” she said.

Mbambe said every Friday they would move to a different police station . She said she started the campaign in the Western Cape at Malmesbury Police Station and the relationship between the community and police had improved.

Police spokesman Captain Stephen Marais said they appreciated the initiative.

Marais said it was always motivating to see ordinary members of the public come forward and express appreciation and gratitude towards the police.

Mbambe said anyone who wanted to join hands in her campaign could contact her on 073 301 5757. –
