ANC’s task team happy with ANCYL in E Cape

THE national task team of the ANC Youth League is so far satisfied with its Eastern Cape executive and has no plan to disband them.

“We had a discussion to find out whether the province had an existing provincial executive. The next leg is to go down to regions, where we are going to check the regional structures,” said Bandile Masuku, an Eastern Cape deployee with the league’ s national task team (NTT).

“After meeting with the regions we will make a report. At the moment the report is not complete until we meet with the regions.”

Masuku said the NTT would meet with the regions in the first week of June.

The task team would also help take the regions of the league in the Western Cape to their first provincial conference, years after their executive was disbanded.

The NTT will visit Northern Cape on May 25 to make an assessment.

Eastern Cape secretary Mziwonke Ndabeni said the youth league’s provincial executive (PEC) was concerned about rumours that it would be disbanded, and the meeting held on Sunday was to dispel such talk.

“The meeting was called by the PEC to dispel the myth that we were going to get disbanded.

“The NTT has reaffirmed that there is no PEC that will be disbanded.

“They wanted to understand the state of the organisation. We did a report and they were satisfied,” Ndabeni said.

The ANC top five leaders of the province were also in attendance.

“The officials were asked how they view the youth league and they confirmed that they do not have a problem with the youth league.

“They confirmed everything that the youth league presented to the NTT,” said Ndabeni.

He added: “The NTT informed the officials that the conference of the youth league would be delayed.

“They want to visit regions and meet branches to satisfy that what was presented is a true reflection of the state of the youth league.”

A youth league member said there were some forces within the ANC and youth league who were working against the league’s provincial executive.

“They told us to hold three meetings and that in those meetings there shouldn’t be a quorum.

“That way the PEC would be seen as dysfunctional and would be disbanded.

“We know this is not about politics, it is just personal issues,” said the league member.

Ndabeni said he had heard the rumour and that the youth league would be approaching the office of the party’s secretary-general Gwede Mantashe to report on some of the shocking things they had heard.

“We said in public that people must not think that the NTT members from the province are coming from heaven – we are not surprised that they sat at night to plot the downfall of the PEC.

“In fact we have resolved to approach the office of the secretary- general about this matter.” —
