A DUNCAN Village mother yesterday told the East London High Court that she witnessed a priest raping her five- year-old daughter earlier this year.
The 35-year-old woman – who cannot be named to protect the identity of her child – said the priest, Zukile Dyubele, also of Duncan Village, was known to the family.
Dyubele, 47, has pleaded not guilty to the charge. “He was the caretaker at Lujiza Junior School, he is a priest at the Apostolic Church ,” she said.
The mother said that on the day of the incident her child had been playing with Dyubele’s child at home, but the children later left to play at another house nearby.
When the mother went to fetch her daughter she was told that both children had left with Dyubele.
“When I arrived at his house, loud kwaito music was playing and I knocked at the door. When no one answered I peeped through a hole in the door and saw him having sexual intercourse with my child,” she said.
“They were on the bed which was about three paces away from the door. He was naked, stark naked. I screamed when I saw what he was doing,” she said.
The woman told acting judge Thembekile Malusi that she called out to her partner for help and together they forced the door open.
She said that Dyubele rushed to get a jacket hanging behind his door and covered the front of his body.
“I rushed to my child and I saw that she was still wearing her jersey and her nightie was pulled up. Her panties, pants and shoes were all off ,” she told the court.
Dyubele’s legal representative, advocate Charles Stamper, put it to the woman that she was mistaken about her version of events.
“Mr Dyubele says that on the day, he was sleeping in that bed with both little girls. Then he saw that as they were sleeping, your daughter’s head was on the side of the bed heading to the floor.
“He then went to her to put her right. He says you must have seen him when he was putting the child on the bed properly,” Stamper said.
“He is lying,” the emotional mother said.
Stamper said Dyubele denied having sex with the child. On Dyubele’s behalf, Stamper also alleged that the woman was accusing him of rape because of her own agenda.
“He said he is suspicious of you because you had problems with him before the incident . He said he had proposed love to you and you agreed.
“Then he became involved with another woman and called it off with you,” Stamper said.
The woman said the incident had happened the previous year and she had declined the proposal because of Dyubele’s age.
Saliswa Ngqangweni, a forensic nurse who examined the young girl after the alleged rape incident, later testified that there had been penetration by a “blunt object”.
