TRAFFIC on the Gonubie Main Road came to a stand still on Thursday evening after a truck lost its load and cooking oil was spilt on the road.
Arrive Alive spokesman Tshepo Machaea confirmed the incident saying a cleaning company had to be called to clear the mess.
"The road was closed for a while to allow for the cleaning of the road. Then authorities were able to open a lane to traffic," he said. "It is a disadvantage that there is not alternative route in Gonubie," Machaea said.
Gonubie Ratepayers Forum, Andre Swart there would have been a problem on Thursday night if there had been an emergency because navigating around the traffic would have been impossible.
"In 1984 there were already plans for an alternative route to Beacon Bay. But to this day, nothing has come of those plans. It would be nice to have another entrance. Hopefully last night's (Thursday) incident will not be repeated,"Swart said.
