Ex-choir singer’s blessing

ENCOURAGING words and a financial blessing from a church member is what helped former Joyous Celebration member, Sandile Cele, realise his dream of becoming a solo artist.

For years, Cele performed with the award-winning gospel choir, which he joined in 2007. He was part of the production team of Joyous 11, however, left the group in 2010 after the release of Joyous 14. Cele is also a member of popular gospel group, Dominion.

His dream was to become a solo artist and release his own album, but had to put those ambitions on hold at one time. Now, Cele is singing a new tune with his first solo album, It will be Alright, which was released in September. Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday during a media tour, Cele said the new album was about giving the community a message of hope and restoration. He said the title track was relevant to all situations. “We’ve all gone through disappointment, hurt and hardships, this song reassures people that it will get better,” he said.

“This album will open one to praise, worship God regardless of their current situations,” he said.

After leaving Joyous Celebration, Cele took a break from the stage and enrolled for a music course at Central Johannesburg College with the intention of venturing into studio production. He said he had not planned to record his album this year as he had been praying for financial assistance.

“I’ve been ministering at my church every Sunday until someone asked me why wasn’t I recording.

“I said I don’t have money but they went on to say I must find out how much it would cost to record an album and start working,” he said.

Cele said he thought the church member was playing tricks on him. It only dawned on him that his prayers were being answered when he started spending hours in the recording studio.

“When I saw this album it was like a dream, I still can’t believe it. “This is my miracle album. It is a testimony for me that God still hears all our prayers. I cannot boast of myself but it took God to touch somebody who would finance my album,” he said.

Many will remember Cele for leading with songs like: Sakhiwe, Okwani and Come Holy Ghost, Power in the Name of Jesus, God is Able and Ngingowakho. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
