ANCYL task team named

Kumbaca and Lali expected to lead new provincial structure.

AFTER more than three weeks without provincial leadership, the Eastern Cape ANC Youth League’s provincial task team has finally been named.

Although there has been no official announcement, ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane confirmed to the Daily Dispatch that the league’s national task team (NTT) had sent him 20 names for the provincial structure.

Transport spokesman and former Daily Dispatch journalist Ncedo Kumbaca and Butsha Lali, from the Chris Hani region, are said to lead the province as convener and coordinator respectively.

Although NTT spokesman Bandile Masuku declined to comment, saying it was to soon to confirm anything, sources in the province confirm the pair were on the leadership team.

“We need to do organisational processes and all the correspondence has yet to go to the provincial secretary.

“Tomorrow we can talk about it in public, after they have talked about everybody,” he said.

“All the individuals appointed must be spoken to and then we can have public discussion about the names.”

A list of the leaders currently doing the rounds, seen by the Dispatch, has Kumbaca and Lali as leaders.

It also features former youth league deputy president Andile Lungisa’s brother, Ayongezwa.

Other leaders on the list – said to be the final list by a number of youth league and Young Communist League sources – include Nombeko Mazwi, former provincial youth league treasurer and deputy chairwoman of the National Youth Development Agency in the province, as well as Siyabonga Mdodi, provincial communist party spokesman.

Asked about this list, Masuku said: “There are a lot of lists out there. have names that have never been discussed.”

Said Mabuyane: “The communique is there, it arrived last week. A PTT has been communicated to us of 20 names.

“We will invite them to all the meetings they are supposed to sit in but they have to meet as a structure and allocate responsibility first.

“For instance on the ANC provincial executive committee two have to be there, the convener and coordinator,” said Mabuyane.

Kumbaca yesterday declined to comment, saying the NTT should comment on this, while Lali could not be reached.

Lungisa said he had received no formal communication notifying him that he was on the provincial task team. —
