EL woman finds worm in her food hard to swallow

AN EAST London woman who found a creepy-crawly in her food at popular restaurant Café Neo said the owner and staff’s attitude had been nonchalant when she complained.

Pumeza Nonzinzi said she discovered worm in the butternut, which was part of a lamb shank and vegetable dish she ate at the restaurant last Saturday evening.

But after taking away her plate, the manager sent a different waiter who told her the food had been inspected and there was nothing wrong with it.

“They treated me like a deluded liar,” she said.

“The waiter’s face turned red with embarrassment when I showed him pictures of the food and the manager inspecting the food at our table.

“He quickly went to call the manager, but still they did not apologise.”

The owner was called and, according to Nonzinzi, added insult to injury when he “bragged” that his restaurant was top rated and could not have maggots.

Owner Reno Ioannon denied the accusation, saying he had bent over backwards to help a customer he identified as “Papa” and his friends.

Ioannon showed the Daily Dispatch receipts with a reversed transaction and R0 charge for drinks amounting to R345.

“I did everything I could to help the gentlemen,” he said.

Ioannon was reminded several times that the complaint had come from Nonzinzi, a woman.

Nonzinzi said a group of men took advantage of the situation and caused a scene until they got free drinks. —
