Four die in E Cape bus crash

FOUR people were killed this morning and scores left injured when a bus, trying to avoid a head-on collision overturned near Cofimvaba.
The bus, a 65 seater from Jobela Star buses was travelling from Cape Town to Dutywa at the time of the accident.
Survivors at the scene told Daily Dispatch reporter that the bus was not speeding but it lost control as it was avoiding an accident.
Sabelo Sotashe from Dutywa said the driver did his best to save the lives of many people. "Though he is dead but he was our hero. He did everything possible to avoid that accident but everything was not at his control. There could have been more dead people by now, he trying his best but unfortunately he's one of the dead," said Sotashe.
The accident happened at about 6am on the notorious R61 road.. Eastern Cape Health spokesman, Sizwe Kupelo earlier in the day said 17 people had to be rushed to Frontier hospital. "A police helicopter and a number of paramedics were dispatched to the scene. 17 right now have been taken to Frontier in Queenstown," said Kupelo.
Arrive Alive spokesman, Tshepo Machaea was rushing to the scene from Mthatha at the time the Dispatch team called him. "At this stage we are not sure of how many fatalities or how bad are the injured, we are running to hte scene,"said Machaea.
