Shock at violent death of Ngcwala teenager

THE frenzied killing of a teenage woman stabbed 42 times has shocked the small village of Ngcwala near Mqanduli.

The grisly discovery of the dead body of Zikhona Nxitywa, 19, was made by a neighbour yesterday morning.

Nxitywa said she hoped police would arrest the killer as soon as possible.

“He should be arrested and rot in jail for what he did. Zikhona never got into trouble. She was a peaceful child and never bothered anyone.

Her parents were also like that,” said Nxitywa.

Zikhona lived with her two siblings after their parents died more than two years ago.

King Sabata Dalindyebo law enforcement officer Bonginkosi Lindani, who is also a resident of Ngcwala village, was among the first people on the scene.

“She had multiple stab wounds on her body – both on her back and torso,” he said.

Mqanduli police spokesman Major Zamukulungisa Jozana was not available for comment.

  • Meanwhile in Bizana, villagers fled their homes in KwaZulu village after a leadership feud erupted last week.

Two families are at loggerheads about who is the rightful area leader (ibhodi).

On Christmas Day one faction attacked and killed two people at a tavern before fleeing into a nearby forest.

The following day, another faction burned down the houses of their opponents.

Mbizana municipality mayor Makhaya Twabu said police had tried to reason with both sides in order to maintain peace. — abongilem@dispatch.co.za
