TV show break for WSU graduate

EASTERN Cape-born journalist Siphiwo Nzawumbi will finally get his big break this Friday when he starts as the new presenter of SABC1 television show, Yilungelo Lakho.

Early this year Nzawumbi was rumoured to be taking over from Phat Joe on the Real Goboza show on SABC1 but producers denied such claims.

Nzawumbi said he was upset at the time when rumours started spreading about him but was now over that and looking forward to a new chapter of his life.

“I was upset when it happened. It put my reputation at stake and in question. I appeared to be this mysterious person and people were saying things about me.”

Yilungelo Lakho is a consumer affairs show that aims to inform and educate people about their rights and provide them with guidance.

He said the producers of the show had reached a point where they wanted to change the face of the show and he immediately took the chance.

“The current presenter is joining another department within the SABC.

“The opportunity came at the right time of my life,” he said.

After going through the nerve-wrecking process of auditions, Nzawumbi said he was informed last week that he had won the auditions and would be the new presenter of the show.

“I was told last week but I had to keep it a secret because there were some things that had to be finalised and I did not want to do the same thing my agent did,” he said.

Executive producer Themba Jacobs confirmed yesterday that Nzawumbi would be the new presenter of the show.

“Siphiwo is replacing Sisanda Jonas who has been with us for a long time and he will be on from this coming Friday,” he said adding that Jonas had moved to news.

Nzawumbi said Real Goboza was never part of his plan in the first place.

“I have always seen myself as a current affairs anchor or being an anchor of a show like this. This is an exciting opportunity for me, it is a consumer rights show,” Nzawumbi said.

The Mthatha-born 24-year-old said he never thought he would be a presenter of a show before turning 25. “It is just a great launch for my career as well.”

“God allowed things to happen the way they did and now I am where I am.”
