Botha Sigcau building evacuated after fire scare

MORE than 1 000 government officials working for various departments at the Botha Sigcau building in Mthatha were speedily evacuated from the 11-storey building at about 3pm.

This was after a strong smell of smoke that led officials to believe that the building was on fire.

Firefighters from the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality were dispatched to the building at Leeds Street. However, they established that there was no fire but some electrical wires caused the smoke.

The second and 11th floors of the building are being renovated.
