EC film-makers set to share their expertise

SA youth targeted with empowerment drive led by established national movie star, director and producer.

THREE Eastern Cape film-makers are on a drive to impart their skills to youth across the country.

Actor Dumisani Mbebe, who hails from Nqamakwe, Zuko Nodada from Mt Frere and Mawande Magadla from Mt Ayliff, together run Ingomso Film Skills and Youth Development, a non-profit organisation aimed at developing and training young people in the field of film-making.

Nodada is a director. His work includes Intersexions, Hard Copy and Zero Tolerance, to mention a few.

Mbebe said they were planning on bringing a special screening of Between Friends to East London in partnership with the Daily Dispatch.

“There are a lot of people we want to bring on board .

“We will invite them to attend the screening so they can see the work we do. We make Johannesburg shine. We make KZN look good, and now we want to do the same thing for our home province,” he said.

“We are currently doing auditions in Mpumalanga for the same programme but our dream would be to see the same thing happening back home,” he said.

Mbebe said everyone who sees the movie will see themselves or someone they knew in one of the characters.

“There are touching moments in the movie and there are those moments that get audiences laughing.

“For the first time we made a movie that is not about violence, poverty or Aids. We just want people to relax and be entertained,” he said.
