Dyosiba named as one of GQ’s ‘best dressed’

East London-born businessman and actor Oyama Dyosiba’s elegant style recently saw him being named one of South Africa’s best dressed men.

The GQ Best Dressed awards is a celebration of style, but is also an expression of what it means to be a dignified man in this day and age.

A total of 50 finalists were selected in August this year and the final top 10 was selected by a panel of judges.

Dyosiba said he was honoured to have made it to the top 10.

“This is amazing. I still cannot believe that I was recognised for my style and what I stand for as a man. I never thought that I would be among 10 South African men to be announced as best dressed,” he said.

The Eastern Cape-born Dyosiba has been in Johannesburg for the past eight years and was working as a sales manager for City Varsity, a media and creative arts school, before opening his own modelling, artist management and production company, Oyama Management Agency.

Dyosiba said his dress style was inspired by his late grandfather. “I used to watch him dress up for church and I realised then that it is important to look good as a man.”

He said his style was professional and mature.

“I try to present myself in a manner that says ‘this guy woke up feeling good’.”

He said every man should invest in a nice stylish white shirt.

“People need to see that you respect yourself by the way you are dressed.”

Dyosiba said he was thankful for the support from his family and the people of the Eastern Cape.

“My mother came all the way from East London to support me and when my name was called, she was so excited,” he said.

Dyosiba is not only an agency owner but has also made a debut in acting as well.

He said he would continue creating opportunities for up and coming models and actors from his home province.

“I strongly believe that as a gentleman it is important that we start everything good in our homes and help build a better community for the next generation,” he said.

He also added that his dream was to see every Eastern Cape aspiring model or actor making it big in the industry.

“Anything is possible and I want to be an instrument of change in my community.”

Dyosiba has worked on the Sunday Times fashion show, SA Fashion Week, Miss Global Botswana and his annual Oyama Models Show.

Other men who made it to the top 10 include Co-CEO of the Creative Counsel Group Gil Oved; Mi-Phone founder Alpesh Patel; rapper DA LES; strategist Mohammed Nalla; DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane; photographer Rhulani Bila; and Biomedical founder Murray Legg.

Each of the top 10 finalists received prizes provided by Kiehl’s, Europa Art, Skullcandy, Persol, Police Jewelry, Diesel, Ben Sherman, Write Gear, Gillette, Toe Porn, Tweezerman and Valpre, as well as a trophy to mark the occasion. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
