Fine time at 360 art event

Lovers of all the finer things in life will be spoilt for choice tomorrow at the first 360 Art in the Park event.

It takes place at the Ann Bryant Art gallery and will see East Londoners being treated to live entertainment by the best musicians in the city, fine food and fine art and crafts.

Event coordinator Sharon Farr said the event was the brainchild of a local magazine, Buffalo City 360.

“East London doesn’t have enough cool things happening that cater for the whole family. If things go well we plan on making it an annual event,” she said.

Farr said the theme was all about the finer things in life.

“We wanted to create something that East London hasn’t had before.”

She said there were more than 70 stalls that will be set up for gourmet food, craft and art. Food will be for sale and there will be art auctions on the day as well.

Farr said there was a wide variety of entertainers lined up for the day including Asanda ‘Msaki’ Mvana, Daniel Anderson, Nasine, Andrew John Bryson, the East London Caledonian Pipe Band and the Highlander Dancers.

Local crafters and artists exhibiting include Lorraine Bezuidenhout, Rose Warren, Greg Schultz, Daniel Mooy, Alison Brandstetter and Julie Koller.

Children between the ages of four and 11 will be looked after in the “barrel of fun” area, where they can enjoy egg-and-spoon races, pony rides, face painting, balloon art and sack races.

There will be a beer tent and a wine and whisky area, while the ladies get treated to a high tea.

“The high tea in the coach house is not to be missed. We are taking a step back in time to celebrate a period known for uniqueness, high quality and handmade treasures,” she said.

Farr said people could reserve their tables at Tillie’s high tea by contacting Intengu Communications.

To end the day’s activities, there will be a movie screening.

“We want to screen the movie outside. People can bring their picnic blankets and relax in the garden while watching the movie.

“If the weather is not kind, we will watch the movie inside.”

There will also be a vintage fashion show.

Tickets cost R35 for adults and R15 for children under 12, available at Intengu Communications, Floradale Fine Art and Vincent Art Gallery. Tickets on the day will cost R40 for adults and R20 for kids. Gates are open from 10am to 9pm. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
