Gospel star set to rock festival stage

Bhisho-born gospel musician Unathi Ndzube is on the rise to stardom with the release of her debut album.

On New Year’s Eve, she will be sharing her music at the Sinqobile Gospel Festival along with some of the province’s greatest gospel acts.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Ndzube said she inherited her gift and love of music from her mother, who was a successful choral soloist.

“I was exposed to music at a very young age. I joined school choirs – junior, intermediate to the senior choir from primary to high school.

“My church, Gospel Pilots, also played a pivotal role in sharpening my gift. I was a worship team member,” said Ndzube.

She said she has worked with many different people on the debut album, including her husband and executive producer, Pastor Pumzile Ndzube.

“Now I have signed with Black Pear Records based in Joburg and under their leadership, my album was published. They will be marketing and promoting it as well,” she said.

The mother of three said the 12-track offering, titled Praise and Worship Chapter 1, consisted of original compositions with two well-known traditional songs.

Nyusela said although she has shared the stage with recognised gospel artists before, the festival would be the biggest event she has ever performed in.

“I performed in 2012 BCM carnival in King William’s Town and again this year. But if an opportunity like this is presented, grab it with both hands and do well with your performances.”

She said she is certain the show will be packed.

“Most people will be in town and want to see the award winners. It’s a blessing,” she said.

Ndzube’s album is available at various stores around East London like the Good News Music Centre and Music Mix at Vincent Park.
