Expectations high for new e.tv shows

The long anticipated new e.tv drama series, Ashes to Ashes will make its debut tonight at 8pm.

The new show features a number of the former Generations stars who were fired from the SABC1 show, including Nambitha Mpumlwana, who played Mawande Memela, Patrick Shai (Patrick), Zenande Mfenyana (Noluntu Memela), Maggie Benedict (Akhona) and Mandla Gaduka (Chopper).

Other leading actors on the show are Chumani Pan and Nyaniso Dzedze.

Ashes to Ashes is set against the backdrop of a prosperous, family-owned funeral business in Tembisa. Namane Funerals is owned by a husband and wife, who inherited the business. The Namanes are played by Mpumlwana and Shai. Helping them run the business are their two sons, played by Pan and Dzedze.

Personalities and personality clashes create some steep twists and turns in the series.

The head of the family has some challenging addiction issues that threaten to ruin their collective future.

To add to this, the family faces a looming threat from an estranged family member and a dark secret.

Social media has been abuzz this week since e.tv started playing recorded teaser clips. Pan said the hype around the series was overwhelming. “I really hope we live up to expectations,” he said.

Pan said the crew was nervous and excited at the same time about the show. “We hope the viewers will accept us and support the new show. This is a first for South Africa and we are really excited,” he said.

The Mooiplaas-born actor is confident the show will become an instant hit. “The stuff we do on set is amazing. There are talented actors and the crew is also amazing. I can’t wait for the people of South Africa to see what we’ve been working on,” he said.
