Upcoming Eastern Cape artists will get a chance to share the stage with international music star Bebe Winans when he performs at the Easter Gospel Feast next month.
Winans will be performing at the Buffalo City Stadium on April 6 and organisers of the show are giving the public an opportunity to choose who they want to see on stage.
“Traditionally we would invite the artists ourselves as organisers but now we want the public to be involved as well,” said show organiser Vovee Batala.
“In total we want 20 artists, five Eastern Cape upcoming singers and the 15 can be from anywhere in the country. Established artists in the province are also welcome to nominate themselves.”
Batala said this was their way of uplifting local artists. To nominate your favourite artist, sms Feast and the artist’s name to 34222.
Batala said they would be selecting the top 20 artists based on the number of text messages each received.
“This is the first international event that we are hosting and we want the public to have a say in this.
“They will see the people they want to see on stage,” he said.
Host for the event is Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter Putco Mafani.
Batala said they wanted another three people to help on stage.
“We want two females and a male for the day. The same applies to the hosts. The public gets to nominate who they want to see co-host with Mafani,” he said.
Batala said well-known MCs, as well as radio and TV presenters were all welcome to nominate themselves to co-host.
“Those who nominate themselves must campaign and get the public to vote for them.
“We will choose people based on the number of smses they receive.”
To nominate your favourite host, sms Feast host and the name of the MC to 34222. Smses cost R2.
People will not only be voting for their favourite artists or hosts, but will also be able to nominate their church to become part of the team ushering on the night.
“We need 200 ushers, we already have 20 from ULoyiso Community Church. People can nominate their church to become a part of the team by smsing Feast usher and the name of the church to 34222.”
Batala said churches that received the most nominations were expected to wear their uniforms on the day of the event.
He added that hospitality institutions in the province could also be part of the serving team.
“Students can nominate their institution and the two with the most votes will join our two chefs,” he said.
To nominate your institution, sms Feast hospitality and the name of the institution to 34222.
Batala said they would announce the first five artists that garnered the most votes next week.
“We will announce the top five every week leading to the event.”
