SARS officials today uncovered 20.76kg of crystal meth valued at R6.3-million at O R Tambo International Airport. The shipment arrived from Lagos‚ Nigeria‚ and was said to be contained inside hair pieces and food items.

Five parcels of crystal meth were discovered concealed at the bottom of the shipment.

The incident was just one of a series of successful operations by SARS at O R Tambo International Airport this week.

On Wednesday‚ 1kg of heroin valued at just over R200 000 was intercepted on a shipment en route to Madagascar‚ hidden in a false compartment of a box.

On the same day a shipment from Maputo to South Africa was found to contain a massive 14.4kg of Khat leaves‚ valued at almost R10 000.

On Tuesday A Sierra Leone national was intercepted after arriving from Sao Paulo‚ Brazil. The passenger was en route to Abidjan‚ Ivory Coast. He was arrested after X-rays revealed that he had swallowed about 100 cocaine “bullets” valued at R288 000.

On Friday customs officials intercepted one of the largest consignments of Cannabis valued at R188 000.

The cargo was declared as bottles of wine. However‚ 134 blocks of Cannabis were discovered in a false compartment of the wine crates.
