Following a successful tour to Australia, Afrikaans singer Juanita du Plessis heads to East London this weekend with a new album.

Du Plessis last month released her 17th album, Toe Staan Die Wereld Stil and it has already sold more than 40000 copies – earning her a platinum award. The talented singer said she could not wait to share some of her new music with Eastern Cape fans.

The Namibia-born musician said she made sure she visited the province every year to thank her fans for their support.

“The people in the Eastern Cape are amazing. It is always such a joy performing for them,” she said.

Du Plessis said her latest album was slightly different from her previous work.

“The production is slightly different but it’s not too far from my previous album. This is a high quality album.

“It is the best album that I have ever done and the response from the supporters has been overwhelming,” she said.

Since her debut in 1998, Du Plessis has the remarkable achievement of receiving platinum awards for every album that she has released.

“The stories that I tell through my music is what makes my music different. I always get people who say it feels like my music is written only for them and that is amazing.

“I also try to get involved in the production side of things, this gives my music the unique sound that it has,” she said.

Du Plessis said she was thankful to everyone who had supported her throughout her singing career.

“It is only by the grace of God that I always sell so many albums and I am thankful to my supporters.”

She has toured America, London and was recently in Australia.

“Former South Africans living abroad are hungry for Afrikaans music. I had so much fun on all my tours,” she said.

At her East London show she will perform alongside her children Ruan and Franja.

“It’s always nice to have them on tour with me, this doesn’t happen often. We will do a couple of songs together, this is something special for me,” she said.

Du Plessis is performing in Port Elizabeth on Thursday and Friday. Her Saturday night East London concert will take place at the Venue@Hemingways.

Hemingways Casino marketing manager Neville Austin said they were excited to be hosting Du Plessis.

“Having performed at venues across the world, we have no doubt that Juanita will give guests at Hemingways a night of top standard entertainment that they will remember for years to come,” he said.

Tickets cost R120 and are available at Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
