Two initiates died in the Eastern Cape over the weekend, increasing the number of deaths reported since the launch of the winter season to six . The initiation season was officially launched on June  21.

Five  of the deaths were reported  in the  OR Tambo district  -  namely Port St Johns, Ngqeleni, Qumbu,  Tsolo - and the  sixth initiate is  from Mlungisi Township in Queenstown.

The ages  of the  deceased  initiates  range between  14 and  29-years. One arrest has been made in connection with the deaths.
