Popular South African band Mi Casa will perform live at the Venue@Hemingways in East London on Saturday.

Mi Casa is made up of three members – Port Alfred-born lead vocalist and guitarist João “J’Something” Fonseca, DJ and producer Sipho “Dr Duda” Mphahlaza, and trumpeter Moshe “Mo T” Kgasoane.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday Fonseca said the performance was to celebrate both his birthday and his homecoming to the province.

“We are so excited to be back in East London. It is always such a great crowd and this event is fast becoming a favourite on my calendar,” he said.

But music is not his only passion. Fans can catch him every Saturday on SABC3’s cooking show What’s for Dinner, where he is joined by different celebrities every week in presenting and preparing recipes.

He explained the group was established in 2011 when the trio did an improvised performance at a night lounge in Johannesburg.

They were such a hit with the crowd they decided to form the band and work on original music.

They released their debut album Mi Casa Music a few months later – and scooped up several awards at the 18th Annual MTN Samas in 2012.

The record featured hit singles These StreetsHeavenly Sent and La Vida.

They went on to release their second album, Su Casa in 2013 which featured singles such as Jika and Your Body.

Mi Casa have just returned from an international tour incorporating many parts of Europe as well as North America.

Neville Austin, Hemingways marketing manager, said after a sold-out show in 2014 they were excited to bring the musical outfit to East London.

“The group really delivers in terms of our commitment to bring only the best in entertainment to Hemingways guests,” said Austin.

lOne lucky Daily Dispatch reader stands the chance of winning two VIP tickets to meet Mi Casa and watch their show while enjoying a one-night stay for two at Hemingways Hotel.
