EFF leader Julius Malema was last night forcibly ejected from parliament by 16 bouncers after he refused to retract calling Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa a “murderer”.
National Assembly chair Grace Boroto ordered Malema to retract the statements that Ramaphosa had been an accessory to murder at the Marikana massacre, and that Ramaphosa was a murderer.
Malema refused to do so, and reiterated the statements.
Boroto then ordered him to leave the debating chamber, which he refused to do.
Following the new rules of parliament, she called the sergeant-at-arms Regina Mohlommi to remove Malema, but Mohlommi failed.
Boroto then called in parliament’s recently acquired security staff, who were recruited from the police.
Sixteen of them went into the chamber and escorted Malema out.
Speaking as he walked out of the chamber, Malema said he would never retract his accusations against Ramaphosa, and that the EFF were being treated like the Marikana miners, but were used to it.
He said security staff had attempted to manhandle him, but had desisted once he said he would not violently resist.
He said parliament was supposedly a place of freedom of speech and a holy place, but that the ANC did not respect this, and that the parliamentary rules were unconstitutional.
Malema does not expect any further punishment from parliament for his actions.
