A Pick n Pay customer was left with a sour taste in his mouth after finding the frozen samoosas he had bought were rotten.

Dorchester Heights resident Sikhander Coopoo said the samoosas, purchased from the Hemingways branch on November 9, were left in his freezer overnight.

It was when he opened the boxes the following day that he made the discovery.

Coopoo said he had bought three boxes of the AliBaba samoosas in total – one vegetable flavour and two meat – with only the meat flavour going off.

The samoosas have an expiry date of February 4 2016.

Armed with a picture of the rotten samoosas, Coopoo said he revisited the branch to see if the samoosas had been taken out of the fridges.

“I was surprised to find them still there, being sold to the unsuspecting public. I asked to speak to the store manager and told him to remove the samoosas because they were rotten. He agreed and began taking them out.

“I was offered a refund but that’s not what I’m after. I want Pick n Pay to remove that rotten food from the fridges permanently before someone becomes seriously ill.”

Coopoo said he would not rest until he received a formal apology.

Pick n Pay Eastern Cape general manager Ian Hughes apologised for the incident.

“We are sorry that our customer has had this experience. We have tested the fridges and gone through the temperature logs and there have been no problems. We are more than happy to meet the customer to discuss it.”
