Last Movember party on Saturday

The Movember East London team who last year raised R42000, will host their final charity drive party on Saturday at Emerald Vale Brewery.

Movember is an international campaign which focuses on men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

All proceeds go towards the Movember Foundation.

Funds are mostly used towards research for cancer and some are dispersed to organisations such as Cansa.

Team captain Jono Burton said all proceeds from the end of Movember party will go towards the campaign.

“Entry fee is R50 and activities will include a live band, jumping castles for the kids, as well as spitbraai and a milkshake bar for the younger ones,” Burton said.

He said they formed the team last year and had a good run and hoped to reach R100000 this year but have struggled due to the time constraints of the organisers.

He added that because the team was made up of young business owners, this allowed for them to put less time aside for Movember. However, he said they were still well supported.

“We were very surprised with the local support. It has been phenomenal.

“East London can be a very fickle place when relying on support but with a cause like this I think it can safely be said that we have all been affected by cancer at some point in our lives – whether personally or through a loved one – and we all want to make an effort to fight this dreaded disease,” he said.

Burton said they held a MoSista Party earlier this month at Sanook where they raised about R7000 “from the cover charge, a percentage of income from the MoBurgers and MoBrews, as well as Mo East London T-shirts”.

He said: “We have R16200 so far from individuals and we have approximately R15000 worth of funds from the sale of various merchandise and channels mentioned.

“We encourage people to sign up and make a small contribution as every cent makes a difference in fighting cancer and developing ways in fighting the disease through research funding.

“Cancer is a vicious disease that does not discriminate. We need to come together and make our stand,” Burton said.
