Bonang Matheba heading to EL to host music festival

South African television’s “It Girl” Bonang “Queen B” Matheba will be in East London next week to host the second annual Chase Music Festival.

The Chase Festival is an open air music event presented by one of the Eastern Cape’s leading clothing labels – Chase Apparel.

Last year the event featured the likes of kwaito king Thebe, hip hop star Ricky Rick and MTV’s Sizwe Dlomo.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch this week, organiser TP Pillay said Matheba’s popularity made her the logical choice to host the event this year.

“She’s the best presenter, not only in the country but on the whole continent.

“Bonang is the drawcard for this year’s event; she is good at what she does and is very popular on social networks, which we hope will also count in our favour,” said Pillay.

He said revellers could expect an eclectic local mix with all major urban music genres from hip hop and old and new school kwaito to gqom and house.

The much acclaimed festival will see the likes of popular hip hop artist DA L.E.S perform along with kwaito legend Doc Shebeleza, Okmalumkoolkat, Black Motion and DJ Sliqe.

The festival takes place at the Jan Smuts Stadium on December 27.

“Last year shocked us as we had over 3000 revellers. We would love to have more than that this year cos we feel everyone needs to experience Chase Fest at least once,” said Pillay.

He said a patriotism towards East London and love for the event had made it a success.

“The aim of the fest is to give the people of East London and its visitors in the summer an event the urban youth of the city can call their own,” he said.

The show will start at 12pm and carry on until late.

Tickets are available at Computicket for R150 general access, R250 at the gate and VIP tickets are R500 available through Computicket. — ziphon@dispatch.co.za
