More than 20 buses meant to bolster Mayibuye Transport Corporation’s fleet, which have been standing idle because they did not meet tender specifications, have been removed.

The buses were supplied by Siga Capital as part of a R60-million contract. The company was required to provide 40 buses while Ronnies Motors had to supply 10 as part of the multimillion rand contract.

However, the buses by Siga Capital did not meet the specifications required by the tender and were parked at MTC’s Reeston depot since late December.

Siga Capital owner Patuxolo Nodada yesterday confirmed to the Daily Dispatch that the buses had been removed and were now at Ronnies Motors, where Siga Capital has reportedly opened a workshop too.

“As part of our programme, we have partnered with Ronnies to deliver the vehicles where they will do the pre-delivery inspection,” he said. “This will make sure that the client buses are in a good condition, and all servicing of the buses will be done there.”

Ronnies could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The Daily Dispatch recently exposed how Nodada was unable to meet crucial deadlines, agreed to with MTC executives.

Nodada missed his deadline of delivering the first batch of 20 buses by the end of November, with the official launch due on December 10.

One day before the launch, which was attended by Premier Phumulo Masualle and transport MEC Weziwe Tikana, Siga Capital delivered only one bus. A further 20 were eventually delivered by December 24, but half were not branded while some had the wrong gearboxes.

The outstanding 19 buses to complete the order of 40 are yet to be delivered by Nodada, meaning he failed to meet a December 31 deadline of delivering the entire fleet.

An amount of R17-million was also paid upfront to Nodada “as deposit and part of contract agreement”.

MTC chief executive officer Ntombizine Madyibi, who last week said the buses needed to be removed from their Reeston Wilsonia depot, yesterday confirmed the move. “I’m told all the buses delivered by Mr Nodada have been removed from our depot to another site. They’ve become an eyesore, hence we wanted them removed.”

She said the MTC would not be mismanaging taxpayers’ money.

“We have a duty to play by providing services to the people.

“This failure to meet the specifications is a problem and we’ve called for the buses to be fixed, hence they are being removed,” she said.

Madyibi said Nodada's company had failed to deliver on time.

“When I first saw him, I said to him, ‘you are such a young guy, this is a big business for such a young person, are you going to deliver?’ and he assured .” — bonganif@dispatch.co.za
