A new reality show exhibiting Mzansi’s hidden treasures takes centre stage next Monday on e.tv.

The show, Double Up Mzansi Style, is presented by Mdantsane comedian Tats Nkonzo and Seipei Mashugane, owner of the company Biker Queen.

The two are currently on a 13-week journey across the country visiting fascinating places.

The aim of the show is to entice viewers to discover more about their own country.

Speaking to the Saturday Dispatch this week in Durban, Nkonzo said their journey started late last year and they had so far covered four provinces.

“We have visited places that I would have never gone to on my own ... and this has made me realise that I do not know my country,” he said.

Nkonzo and Mashugane arrive in the Eastern Cape next week.

Not wanting to give away too much, Nkonzo said one of their destinations was Hogsback.

The small town has a population of more than 1000 people and is known for its indigenous forests, walks, waterfalls and trout fishing.

“We do not go to the expected five-star places, we go to places that are hidden and special.

“I saw a baobab tree which has a bar in Mpumalanga.

“That tree is the biggest baobab in the world and it is right here in our country.

“It was one of those unexpected things I didn’t know about,” Nkonzo said.

Executive producer Peter Vundla cannot wait for viewers to see the new show.

“Travel has opened my mind to the different cultures and customs of the people in our country.

“Double-Up Mzansi will give viewers a great opportunity to travel to lesser-known places and experience new destinations and people through the eyes of our hosts,” he said.

Nkonzo also hoped the show would inspire South Africans to explore their country.

The versatile comedian said he was one of those “lazy people” who did not travel far from his hometown.

“Now I want to travel more and discover new places.

“We have visited places that are not mainstream, that are affordable, where a person can take their family or friends,” he said.

Catch Double-Up Mzansi Style on Mondays at 8.30pm.
