Young woman survives Gonubie collision

A young woman was extricated from her vehicle by the jaws of life after a crash on the Gonubie main road this morning.
Police said the woman was driving in a white BMW when she collided with a white Toyota Hilux at approximately 7am. The Toyota had “T-boned” the BMW.
Dennis Curtin, an advance life support paramedic at Dynamic Medical Emergency Services said they arrived at the scene shortly after 7am and found the woman still entrapped in her vehicle.
"She had slight injuries. The jaws of life were used to retrieve her from her car. We then transported the woman to Frere Hospital where we left her undergoing X-Ray," Curtin said.
He said the metro rescue unit and the BCM fire department had responded to the scene.
"A special thanks to them for all the assistance that they provide us with when it comes to rescuing our entrapped patients," said Curtin.
East London police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said the cause of the accident was still unknown.
She said police had open a case or reckless and negligent driving.
