After months of recording, East London singer Msaki has released a deluxe version of her debut album.

Msaki released the album, titled Zaneliza, with “The Golden Circle” – the people that helped put the project together from the musicians to the cooks.

The album is the culmination of a unique fundraising initiative the singer embarked on last year when she asked people to pre-order the album.

All funds raised went towards financing it and the deluxe edition has been released first for those who supported her.

In addition to the album – which contains more songs – supporters also received handmade journals and paintings from artist friends of Msaki.

“This was my way of thanking the people for their amazing support.

The new mother has performed at various events around the province and country. She also recently collaborated with house legends Revolutions on their hit single Spring Tide.

She has also worked with East London DJ Mobi Dixon on his LoveColourSpin single.

“My house collaborations have been great. It’s like a foundation for introducing my own album as an artist.”

Msaki said Revolution was coming to East London this week to shoot the music video for Spring Tide.

She said working with the duo has been an amazing experience.

“People have been asking if I would be releasing a house album, but I tell them I am not a house musician.

“It’s about growing my media profile and accessing people that would not hear me at at my acoustic show,” she said.

“As an independent artist it is important to grow your reach, not to limit the reach of your album.”

Working as an independent artist has not been without challenges but Msaki is determined to make it work.

However, Msaki said she was looking into getting a booking agent and PR company to do work with her.

“I don’t want to do 16 jobs all by myself, I need more support so I can have time for my daughter and family,” she said.

She said she would be releasing another batch of deluxe edition albums later this year.

“We will have the first official launch here in East London in April and soon after that the album will be available in stores.”
