After 18 years of cracking jokes for the nation, David Kau will finally have his first one-man show in East London next week.

The stand-up comedian will be performing at The Venue@Hemingways on February 26 .

Kau’s Mo Jokes tour kicked off last April and has visited a number of cities across the country.

Speaking with the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Kau said the tour was long overdue.

“I am excited about performing in East London. I’ve never had a show there before. I’ve been to corporate gigs but not my own show.”

He said the show had been well-received wherever he had visited.

“I have been doing comedy for 18 years and there are a lot of supporters who have never seen me perform live,” he said.

“Many remember me from the Pure Monate Show days and now I want to meet them face to face.”

Kau will take to the stage with MC for the evening Skhumba Hlophe, who has been received well at previous shows at The Venue@Hemingways.

He said his jokes were centred around his life as a husband, father and film maker.

“There’s a lot of stuff happening around the country, from current affairs to the Penny Sparrows, but I prefer to talk about my life because that way no one can steal my material and make it their own – it’s my life,” he said.

Kau has been married for eight years and has two children.

He has created a platform for many upcoming comedians in the industry. Some of them include Hlophe, Chris Mapane, and Thapelo Tips Seemise.

“If I am not making films then I am out discovering new comedians. There is so much talent out there.”

The renowned comedian said he does not feel threatened by the younger comedians.

“I create platforms for them and help them anyway I can. I don’t just organise shows for them – I also help them with their personal stuff,” he said.

Hemingways Casino marketing manager Neville Austin said the public should expect razor-sharp wit and hilarious antics.

“This show is bound to keep guests talking, laughing and reminiscing for months,” said Austin.

lTickets for the show cost R150 and are available at Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
