7th ‘Generations’ star moves to ‘Ashes’

E.tv drama Ashes to Ashes is adding another ex-Generations star to its cast.

The latest addition is Atandwa Kani, who had just made a brief appearance on Generations before 16 actors were sacked.

The first season of Ashes to Ashes premiered on e.tv in March last year. Some of its cast include former Generations stars Nambitha Mpumlwana, Patrick Shai, Zenande Mfenyana, Menzi Ngubane, Mandla Gaduka and Maggie Benedict.

Kani is the seventh member to join the popular new drama.

The telenovela is set against the backdrop of a family-owned business in Tembisa, Namane Funerals.

The funeral parlour is headed by a husband and wife duo, Mandlakazi and Selogile Namane, who inherited it from their parents.

The pair has created an empire with the assistance of their children Tsietsi, Monwabisi and most recently, Reba Namane.

On the surface all looks well, but the Namane family is haunted by deep, dark secrets that are constantly swept under the carpet to keep the family intact.

Kani takes the role of Buzwe Sihlahla – a no-nonsense lawyer.

Speaking with the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Kani said he was excited to be part of the cast.

“Working with the cast has been great. We’ve all worked together on Generations,” he said.

The self-proclaimed prince of theatre said his character would capture many hearts. “Buzwe is competitive and charming, and he knows what he is about,” Kani said.

In the previous season, the show ended with one of the Namane brothers shooting his mother and brother.

Kani’s character is now preparing to defend the brother in court.

E.tv’s managing director for the channels division, Monde Twala, said the show played an integral role in launching the 8pm telenovela slot for the channel.

“We are thrilled about the new season of Ashes to Ashes,” he said.

Series producer Genna Lewis said the changing power dynamics in the Namane family would bring fierce action to the fore.

Other new faces on the show include Tina Jaxa and Nandi Nyembe.
