A Schoolboy is haunted by the sight of the six lifeless bodies of his friends after a horrific taxi smash.

Makabongwe Poswayo, in Grade 12 at Zwelivumile Senior Secondary School, said he was battling to get over the carnage he witnessed on Saturday night.

He was one of the first to arrive at the scene on the R409 between Tsomo and Ngqamakhwe.

Poswayo, the president of the school’s representative council of pupils, said: “I have never seen so much blood or smelt blood in my life.”

He said his fellow schoolmates were also battling to come to terms with the tragedy.

Premier Phumulo Masualle yesterday visited the Ngcobo school, where he assured parents, teachers and pupils they would receive support from government.

The pupils were killed when the minibus taxi they were travelling in rolled.

They were returning from a sporting event at Nomaheya Senior Secondary School in Ngqamakhwe.

Masualle was accompanied by Ngcobo mayor Lamla Jiyose and officials from the department of education.

The premier said social workers, who were sent to offer counselling to pupils, staff and families of the victims on Monday, would make regular visits to assist them.

Acting school principal Xhathisa Somana said no teaching and learning had taken place at the school since the tragedy.
