Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, crowned at Carnival City on Saturday night as the prettiest young woman in South Africa, took home over R2-million in prizes.

The Miss South Africa pageant is one of the richest beauty competitions in the world‚ according to the organisers.

Twelve finalists competed for the coveted title‚ released by 2015 pageant queen Liesl Laurie‚ 24, who was placed in the top 10 at the Miss World 2015 pageant in China.

During her reign the new queen, Kunene, will represent the country at both the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants.

Among her prizes are cash‚ a car‚ a luxury skiing holiday and products. She will also receive thousands in cash and study bursaries to award to South Africans she meets during her reign.

The pageant was without one of its judges – former beauty queen Basetsana Kumalo had to undergo surgery this week after breaking her ankle when she slipped and fell in the rain while attending her son’s school concert.

“The organisers made the decision not to replace her on the judging panel at this late stage and her scores to date still stand‚” the organisers said.

The other Miss South Africa judges were entrepreneur‚ poet‚ writer and former magazine editor Kojo Baffoe; actress and television personality Sophie Ndaba; designer Casper Bosman; and magazine editor and style icon Pnina Fenster.
