Top artists dazzle crowds

Top SA artists entertained crowds at the Mhlontlo Music Festival which was held at Tsolo Junction Multipurpose Centre on Saturday.

The Daily Dispatch was media partner for the event.

Music lovers waited until the early hours of Sunday to see their favourite artists perform.

The ever-energetic and well-received Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter, Putco Mafani, was the master of ceremonies for the event.

The lineup included the award-winning Maskandi singer Ichwane leBhaca, Siphokazi of Amacala fame and the new kid on the block, Lilitha Bidla of KwaBhaca.

Also in the line was the Durban-based music group, Durban Nyts of Shumaya fame. The group’s hit song, Shumaya, became a “national anthem” receiving overwhelming play time on national TV and radio stations.

They gave the jubilant crowd exactly what was expected, dishing out one hot song after another.

Another fascinating act was Lilitha Bidla. Despite being new in the music industry, she outdid herself, with a wonderful voice and equally good energy on stage.

With savvy marketing, Lilitha may become the biggest musician to emerge from the Eastern Cape after Zahara and Nathi.

Lilitha described the experience of sharing the stage with top artists at the weekend as “amazing” and added she was happy her performance came shortly after the release of her debut album, Ndim Lho.

Organiser of the event, Nkosifikile Gqomo of Nophemba Holding said they were satisfied with the success of the event.

“There was a possibility of making the event an annual event. As Nophemba Holding we think that we will be able to help them,” he said.

He said the turnout was impressive given that the event was in its first year.

“We think it will improve from here, and it will begin to sink into the minds of people that there is now entertainment in this area,” he said.

Mayor of Mhlontlo municipality Mandisa Giyose said the purpose of the event was to promote the tourism of the area, among other things.

“We also wanted to give a platform to our up-and-coming artists,” she said.

At least six individual artists or groups from Mhlontlo municipality featured in the event.
