New radio station hits airwaves

The online radio station founded by Buffalo City Metro’s (BCM) former spin doctor Keith Ngesi is officially on air.

The launch of Keith Ngesi Radio (KNR) was held at Legends Showcase in Berea, East London, on Friday.

Ngesi, who has more 15 years of experience as a broadcaster, described the launch as an “overwhelming occasion” that was beyond his expectation.

“In faith terms I can simply say God showed up,” he said, adding the station rested on four pillars – motivation, spirituality, entertainment and current affairs.

Speakers at the event included rural development and agrarian reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane, South African actor Luthuli Dlamini and Pastor Mangaliso Matshobane who all commended Ngesi on his new venture.

Ngesi said he believed the station’s four pillars would serve the region’s diverse society.

“When people tune in we want them to feel motivated, spiritually uplifted, entertained and informed,” he said.

The station will be online for four hours a day with most shows broadcast in the afternoon.

It will offer programmes anchored by a crew of life coaches, motivational speakers, radio personalities and church leaders.

SABC news journalist Luzuko Koti said Ngesi’s new venture was no surprise as he had always been “a bold person”.

“I am confident that this initiative will be a success because he is driven and very focused,” said Koti, who worked with Ngesi for more than decade.

Listeners can tune in by downloading the generic app Listen2myradio.com or go to tknshow.listen2myshow.com.

Those using the app will get notifications every time the station goes on air.

Ngesi said the station also had an online WhatsApp number 072 266 6618 where listeners can interact and get live feedback; the website will go live this week. — arethal@dispatch.co.za
