Ntsiki Mazwai takes a swipe at whites who don't know the 'indigenous anthem'

Musician and poet‚ Ntsiki Mazwai‚ has again spoken out about language issues in South Africa‚ arguing that “white people” should have learnt “the indigenous anthem of this land.”

As a social activist‚ Ntsiki has never been shy to address issues she feels are pressing. Her controversial views have seen her get on the wrong side of several high profile personalities‚ including Sports minister Fikile Mbalula and musician Simphiwe Dana‚ in recent months.

Her most recent outburst was not addressed to any particular political party or musician‚ but rather to “white people.”

While attending an ANC event ahead of the Parliamentary debate on president Jacob Zuma earlier this week‚ Ntsiki Mazwai sang the traditional version of the anthem‚ Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika.

It was then‚ she says‚ that she realised “we had been bullied into the new version” of the song and decided to write a stinging rebuke to “white people.”

“White people were suppose to learn the indigenous anthem of this land! Qha! We can no longer pussy foot around a people who are in denial that they are in Afrika!” she wrote in a series of Twitter messages on Wednesday.

She followed these tweets up with another attack‚ this time suggesting that “black friends” were doing white people an injustice and keeping them ignorant by speaking English.

“Dear mlungu: yo black friends are doing you an injustice by speaking to you in english....REAL Friends don’t let their friends stay ignorant‚” she wrote.
