Soul sister launches ‘pre-ordered’ album

Hard work will finally pay off for East London soul singer Msaki, when her debut album becomes available in stores nationwide this weekend.

Msaki released her album titled Zaneliza – How the water moves, with her “Golden Circle” – the people who helped put the project together including everyone from musicians to cooks.

The album is the culmination of a unique fundraising initiative the singer embarked on last year, when she asked her fans to pre-order the album.

All funds raised went towards financing it and this year she released a deluxe edition for those who supported her.

The album has been co-produced with this year’s Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year, Nduduzo Makhathini, and boasts an eclectic mix of talented musicians.

Msaki has performed at various events around the province and country.

She also recently collaborated with house legends Revolutions on their hit single Spring Tide.

She has also worked with East London DJ Mobi Dixon, on his LoveColourSpin single.

Both dance songs have topped the charts around the country.

She also performed on SABC1’s Live AMP music show and has shared stages with artists such as Salif Keita, Pops Mohammed, Madala Kunene, Vusi Mahlasela, Angelique Kidjo, Siphokazi Mohapi, Thandiswa Mazwai, Bongeziwe Mabandla, and the Blk Jks, among others.

This year saw the singer making her debut performance on the Metro FM Music Awards stage, alongside Mobi Dixon.

Msaki said she would be embarking on a marketing tour across the country.

“I have been hosting shows of visiting musicians in the city and I will continue doing so every month.

“I have also been growing my One Shushu Day artistry company to employ youth interested in the music industry,” she said.

Msaki added that she has officially opened One Shushu Day Publishing to sign other song writers, especially those from the Eastern Cape, in partnership with Universal music.

She will hold an album-signing session next week, on Saturday at Music Mix in Vincent.

The afro-soul singer said one of her goals this year would be to have an international tour.

Her first single on the album, Iimfama Ziyabona, will be relea- sed on iTunes and Google Play on Friday.
