Malema blasts Mantashe and Zulu over Amathole toilets scandal

EFF leader Julius Malema this afternoon lambasted ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe and minister of small business Lindiwe Zulu over the Amathole district municipality (ADM) toilet scandal during a community meeting in Butterworth.

Addressing hundreds of people, Malema said the ANC had failed on delivering flushing toilets, instead "gave a toilet tender to Lindiwe Zulu and Gwede Mantashe's children."

Malema was referring to the multi-million rand tender that was awarded to a company called Siyenza which has links to Mantashe's son Buyambo and Zulu's son.

This was revealed by a Daily Dispatch expose that blew the lid on the tender which was improperly awarded and has since been cancelled.

The tender was meant for the building of pit toilets in ADM, to which Butterworth belongs.

Malema said pit toilets were an insult to the dignity of the ADM people.

"There is no reason why they should not build you flushing toilets which is an easy thing to do," said Malema. "They cannot because the ANC government gave the tender to Gwede Mantashe's son and the son of Lindiwe Zulu. These people steal a lot, even worse than the apartheid government because they take 70% of money meant for service delivery while the apartheid government was stealing only one percent."

Malema also said his party would "end the corruption in this municipality" if voted into power and build flushing toilets.
