Acclaimed gospel tour to visit EL

Former Joyous Celebration member Mahalia Buchanan is bringing her Redeemed to Worship tour to East London next month.

Buchanan, who was a member of the award-winning group for seven years, released her debut album – also titled Redeemed to Worship – last year in September.

The album saw her winning her first SABC Crown Gospel music award for best newcomer last year.

She has backed star acts such as Benjamin Dube, Joyous Celebration, Ntokozo Mbambo, Jonathan Butler and Donnie McClurkin.

Her tour kicked off in Johannesburg in March.

“For the longest time I was performing songs that I used to sing in Joyous Celebration and now I am coming with my own music.

“People have embraced my sound and some have been telling me that my music has touched them,” she said.

Buchanan said the support she received from the public had been overwhelming at times.

“It’s amazing. I really did not expect this to happen; this is new for me and people have been supportive and have welcomed my music.”

She said her debut album was about celebrating the love of God.

“This is a celebration album. I am celebrating what Jesus did for us and I am also thanking him for what he continues to do for us,” she said.

Buchanan said if it weren’t for the grace of God she would not have released her solo album.

“I thank God for a lot of things. I am really excited about this album and my prayer is that anyone who listens to it will be encouraged.”

Other artists who will feature include Harmony House Ensemble, Nostalgic Voices and Naureen Theys.

Buchanan said she could not wait to perform in East London on June 11.

“It’s always great ministering in East London. Every time the reception is great and we worship in one voice.

“I am also looking forward to hearing the other artists.

“East London has a lot of talent,” she said.

Harmony House Ensemble founder William Waldo said they were excited to be a part of Buchanan’s Redeemed to Worship tour.

“We’ve hosted her in the city before and we are happy she featured us on her tour.

“She is in for a surprise – our guys have really worked hard on their sound,” he said.

General tickets for the event cost R120 and are available from Computicket. — poliswap@dispatch.co.za
