Another taxi driver gunned down in taxi violence

A taxi driver has been shot and killed in Libode as taxi violence flares up again today.

At least one other person was wounded, according to unconfirmed reports.

The 35-year-old taxi driver affiliated to the Mthatha Taxi Owners' Association was gunned down shortly after 10am today.

He was transporting commuters from Mthatha to Libode when an unknown number of gunmen fired three times. He is the second to be killed after a conductor affiliated to the same taxi association was killed on Tuesday.

The taxi violence is over the Libode to Mthatha operating route.

Eye-witnesses told the Daily Dispatch that the taxi driver managed to get out of the minibus taxi after the three shots before finally collapsing about 20 metres from the vehicle.

They said passengers also ran out of the taxi screaming, while they ran for cover fearing for their lives.
