No family squabble over Madiba’s will‚ but Qunu home still in dispute

There was no fighting among the members of late president Nelson Mandela’s family following the announcement of the will last year.

Dikgang Moseneke‚ one of the executors of his estate‚ said that contrary to media speculation there would be fights over Mandela’s estate‚ “there was no fight within the family”.

“They were united‚ They gave us support‚” Moseneke said.

Moseneke said much of the assets from his estate would be transferred to trusts that would continue to support the family.

“I have received nothing but continual support.”

The recently retired deputy chief justice made this remark as he explained the progress in the winding up of Mandela’s estate.

He announced that none of Mandela’s assets had been sold in order to pay bequests.

However‚ he said Mandela’s home in Qunu and movable assets such as cattle had been left out of the liquidation and distribution account.

The executors anticipate lodging with the Master of the High Court a second and final liquidation account dealing with the Qunu home once the dispute between the executors and Mandela’s second wife‚ Winnie Madikizela-Mandela‚ had been resolved.

Last month‚ the high court in Mthatha dismissed her claim to the late stateman’s Qunu home. — Tiso Black Star Group Digital
