Mdantse residents have been without water since the early hours of this morning.
Buffalo City Metro spokesman Sibusiso Cindi said the outage was due to bursts on two water pipes which channel water to the Mount Ruth reservoirs.
"There are two major pipe bursts on the 500mm water pipes which supply Mount Ruth reservoirs. One has been repaired and we are currently busy with the second one," Cindi said.
Cindi said a team is currently busy diverting water from the other reservoir supply to the affected areas which are Zones 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
He could not confirm how long it would take for the repairs to be completed.
